Advanced technology for packaged cogeneration systems

Conference · · Energy Technol. (Wash., D.C.); (United States)
OSTI ID:5762274
A growing number of commercial and institutional energy users have applied cogeneration systems of less than 1MWe capacity, but the market has generally been limited to those whose price differential between electricity and natural gas justified the comparatively high capital costs. More research in advanced energy conversion technology is needed before a broad penetration is possible. Packaged cogeneration systems, standardized and pre-tested with autonomous controls are an appropriate and achievable way to meet the energy needs of this group. The author analyzes the economics of heating/cooling cogeneration systems designed to meet this need, and describes several Gas Research Institute gas-fueled cogeneration projects that could improve the economics. 1 reference, 4 figures, 2 tables.
