Drift and tearing modes in a sheared cylindrical collisionless plasma column are studied. A set of differential equations in the radial coordinate are derived with small gyroradius and low-..beta.. expansion. The finite-..beta.. effects include curvature drifts, gradient-B drifts, and the parallel magnetic field perturbation. Algebraic elimination reduces the resulting set of equations to a fourth-order system. Analysis shows that bad curvature does not drive the collisionless modes unstable.
