Results of research on processes controlling the distribution of /sup 55/Fe in the Columbia River ecosystem and the Pacific Ocean are reported. Direct measurements of /sup 55/Fe in seawater and in zooplankton indicate that marine organisms concentrate /sup 55/Fe in preference to stable iron. In measurements of /sup 55/Fe in marine organisms from various depths it was determined that the highest concentrations are found in the mesopelagic and epipelagic zones in fishes and crustaceans. Only low concentrations were noted in fishes and sea cucumbers from the sea floor. (JGB)
