Wave-particle resonance broadening in a Langmuir turbulence

A new resonance broadening theory formulated in the Fokker--Planck framework shows agreement with numerical analyses in which particle diffusion in velocity space is studied against a background of prescribed Langmuir turbulence, much better than the Dupree--Weinstock theory. The deviation from the quasilinear theory because of modification of particle orbits is stronger than previously conjectured.
