Title: Adsorption of certain oxygen-, nitrogen-, and sulfur-containing molecules and ions on copper and silver electrodes

Journal Article · · Sov. Electrochem. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:5760547

The behavior of individual water, ethylenediamine, monoethanolamine, and thiourea molecules and of thiocyanate and cyanide ions on copper and silver electrodes was examined by the quantum-chemical method of CNDO/2 (complete neglect of differential overlap). Energy, structure, and charge characteristics were obtained for these molecules and ions in the adsorbed state. It was concluded that copper is more hydrophilic than silver, and an estimate was given for the potential of zero charge of the copper electrode. For the sulfur-containing surfactants, adsorption is suggested to be dissociative in character.
