The authors report electronic tuning of a 1.3 /mu/m InGaAsP semiconductor laser over a wavelength range of 0.083 /mu/m (83 nm) using an acoustooptic filter in an external cavity configuration. Both single- and multiple-wavelength operation were achieved. Chirping modes of the cavity were eliminated by placing a second acoustooptic filter inside the cavity. Linearity of the chirping modes was verified experimentally.
