Carburetion apparatus

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5758494
A carburetion apparatus is described for a combustion engine including carburetor means for creating a fuel-air mixture, and an intake manifold for receiving the fuel-air mixture, the carburetion apparatus comprising a body having a central passage therethrough, baffles across the central passage, one end of the body receiving the carburetor means and defining an entrance for passage of the fuel-air mixture from the carburetor means to the central passage, the opposite end of the body being fixed to the intake manifold and defining an exit therein for passage of the fuel-air mixture from the central passage into the intake manifold. The baffles are located in the central passage between the entrance and the exit and constituting a sufficient restriction to cause a pressure drop between the carburetor means and the intake manifold, each baffle of the baffles comprising tubular members extending across the central passage such that the fuel-air mixture engages the tubular members as the fuel-air mixture flows through the central passage, and means for heating the tubular members, the central passage being generally horizontal. The entrance and the exit are horizontally displaced from each other, the engine further including an exhaust manifold for receiving exhaust gases from the engine, and an exhaust pipe for carrying the exhaust gases from the exhaust manifold, a first baffle of the baffles including a first plurality of tubular menters and being adjacent to the entrance, a second baffle of the baffles including second tubular members and being between the entrance and the exit, a third baffle of the baffles including third tubular members and being adjacent to the exit.
