The objective of this meeting was to discuss how to implement the use of waste tires as a partial substitute fuel in the US manufacture of cement. The meeting stimulated interest between cement kiln operators and tire recyclers to use waste tires as a partial fuel substitute and established communication between tire recyclers and cement manufacturers. Waste tires are being used in cement kilns in Germany, England, Canada, and Japan. DOE's purpose in conducting the meeting was to identify an appropriate DOE role to reduce the apparent barriers currently inhibiting the use of waste tires in the US cement industry.
