Nonlinear evolution of ion-cyclotron waves in the magnetosphere during fast-proton injection

The nonlinear evolution of circularly polarized ion-cyclotron waves in the magnetospheric plasma is analyzed. The injection of fast protons is taken into account. It is shown that this effect can lead to a change in the amplitude of the ion-cyclotron wave in a characteristic time much longer than the period of the nonlinear oscillations of the protons in the wave field. The results of the theory are used to analyze geomagnetic pulsations of the ''string-of-pearls'' type.
