This patent describes an absorber-coupled multi-effect regenerative cycle comprising: a single-effect absorption cycle having a boiler having an inlet and liquid and vapor outlets, a condenser having an inlet connected to the boiler vapor outlet and having an outlet, an evaporator having an inlet and an outlet, means for connecting and reducing the pressure from the condenser outlet to the evaporator inlet, and absorber having inlets connected to the evaporator outlet and the the boiler liquid outlet and having an outlet, means for pumping fluid from the absorber outlet to the boiler inlet; a single-effect regenerative cycle having a multistage boiler having a plurality of boiling stages each with an inlet and liquid and vapor outlets, a multistage resorber having absorber stages each having liquid and vapor inlets and an outlet, means for cooling and maintaining the resorber stages at a substantially constant temperature, a multi-section regenerator having a shell, liquid and vapor inlets, means for connecting the liquid outlet of the lowest pressure boiler stage to the regenerator liquid inlet; and means for coupling the absorber of the single-effect absorption cycle and the multistage boiler of the single-effect regenerative cycle for transfer of heat from the absorber to the multistage boiler.
