Title: Crystal structure and superconductivity of indium-rich In--Bi and In--Sb alloys after high-pressure treatment

Journal Article · · Sov. Phys. - Solid State (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

After heat and pressure treatments and quenching of the alloys, x-ray phase analysis and measurements of T/sub c/ showed an expansion of the range of homogeneity of the compounds In/sub 2/Bi and In/sub 5/Bi/sub 3/. The phase transition in the alloy In--33 at. % Bi at P = 20 kbar and T = 20 /sup 0/C was a transformation of the In/sub 2/Bi ..omega.. phase to the In/sub 5/Bi/sub 3/ z phase due to a shift to higher indium concentrations of the ranges of stability of these phases with increasing pressure. In In--Sb alloys (with 20--40 at. % Sb) two new intermediate phases were discovered after the action of pressure. These were the ..omega.. and z analogs of the compounds In/sub 2/Bi and In/sub 5/Bi/sub 3/, confirming the homology rule for binary systems.
