Grain boundary segregation and environmental degradation of a ferritic stainless steel

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5752457
Grain boundary segregation analysis, hydrogen embrittlement and stress corrosion tests were conducted on a 13 mm thick plate of the Fusion AOD heat (No. 9607) of HT-9. Grain boundary chemical analysis was performed using PHI model 595 and 545 Auger Electron Spectrometers (AES). The Model 595 spectrometer has a spatial resolution of less than 0.1 ..mu..m which allows segregation to measured on very small segments of grain boundary or other microstructural features. Analysis was performed on material given the following heat treatments: 1) 1040/sup 0/C for 30 min, air-cooled + 760/sup 0/C for 2-1/2 hr, air-cooled; 2) same as 1 + 240 hr at 500/sup 0/C.
