In this work, the authors studied the behavior of the biologically active metals (Al, Cu, Cr, and Be) during the percolation of very acid coal leachates through soil from Maryland`s Eastern Shore. In batch experiments, this soil was exposed to a standard, synthetic leachate, the composition of which mimics natural acid coal leachate.
