A robotic arm is used in a laboratory technique developed for spray painting a light-sensitive explosive onto space structures. The technique was created to simulate an impulsive load experienced by exposure of a reentry vehicle to a hostile nuclear encounter which may affect the structure's ability to perform the design function. This paper explains the technique, including robot control, spray appplication and deposition, load diagnostics and safety considerations.
