This paper describes improvement in a fuel combustion system for a gas engine defining a main combustion chamber above a reciprocating piston and a precombustion chamber assembly in communication therewith, defining a prechamber and igniting means for igniting a mixture of gaseous combustible fuel and air in the prechamber and forming expanding burning gases. The improvement comprises: ejection passage means defining by the precombustion chamber assembly, the ejection passage means includes a plurality of ejection passages of a preselected geometric cross-section in communication with the prechamber for directing and controllably expanding the burning gases from the prechamber into the main combustion chamber at a velocity greater than the speed of sound.
