Static gravitational field in generalized scalar tensor theory

A useful relation between the metric component g/sub 00/ and the scalar field phi is obtained for a static gravitational field in Nordtvedt's general scalar tensor theory where the parameter ..omega.. is a variable. A simple method for generating the solutions of Nordtvedt's field equations from the corresponding Einstein's vacuum solutions is obtained. Static axially symmetric field equations are solved in prolate and oblate spheroidal coordinates. Simple cylindrically symmetric solutions are also given.
