Threshold current for the transverse single-bunch instability in PEP

The equation for the threshold current for the transverse single-bunch instability predicted by the two-macroparticle model for a bunch with charge of moving in a storage ring under the influence of a constant dipole wake potential and constant transverse beta-function is given. A preliminary estimate of the fraction of the total dipole impedance exterior to the rf cavities is given. Threshold current values were measured at PEP and fitted to the threshold current equation to determine preliminary values for some of the unknown parameters of the equation. Results are given. (WHK)
