Methods for the lattice physics analysis of LWR's

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5745836
The lattice physics methods in use at the Tennessee Valley Authority which are embodied in a computer program call LATTICE are described. This code requires as input such design information as dimensions, densities, material specifications, loadings, and number densities. The output consists of data required by the TVA reactor simulator code, such as assembly infinite multiplication factors, two-group constants, energy release per fission neutron, xenon thermal absorption cross-section, and control reactivity worth. The report describes the manner in which the lattice is modeled, the source of the basic cross-section information, the techniques used to obtain the neutron energy spectrum and calculate the few-group cross-sections, and the manner in which the two-dimensional assembly flux and power distributions are obtained. In addition the procedures employed in performing depletion calculations for the assembly are described.
