The Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs report on H.R. 2041 is favorable toward the authorization of DOE civilian nuclear and non-nuclear energy projects in the 1986 budget. There are a number of amendments which adjust budget figures either up or down. The committee approved expenditures of $2613.3 million out of the $2622.5 million of the $5495 million budget request over which it has jurisdiction. Significant changes were a decrease in light water reactor technology and departmental administration, and an increase in low-level nuclear waste technology and power marketing administration. The report explains the justifications for these changes, such as changes in the world enriched uranium market, and estimates the net cost to the government at $3563 million. The report compares 1985 appropriations, 1986 requests, and 1986 appropriations. 6 tables.
