This work presents the state of the art in thermal recovery processes. It emphasizes the reservoir aspects of conventional thermal recovery processes - combustion, steam, hot water, and hot gases - and considers in detail and at length the application of these processes to oil reservoirs. One section is devoted to the use of unusual thermal recovery processes and to innovative applications seriously being considered for coal and oil-shale deposits. Selected topics on operational problems, well completions, surface facilities, pollution, health and safety, and economics also are discussed. 651 references.
