Microscopic analysis of the /sup 13/C(. cap alpha. ,n)/sup 16/O and /sup 13/C(. cap alpha. ,. cap alpha. )/sup 13/C reactions

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. C; (United States)
The /sup 13/C(..cap alpha..,n)/sup 16/O and /sup 13/C(..cap alpha..,..cap alpha..)/sup 13/C reactions are investigated through the generator-coordinate method. Two bands with marked ..cap alpha..+ /sup 13/C structure are found in the /sup 17/O spectrum. Experimental candidates are proposed. The microscopic /sup 13/C(..cap alpha..,..cap alpha..)/sup 13/C cross sections are in fair agreement with experimental data. We show that the /sup 13/C(..cap alpha..,n)/sup 16/O cross section at stellar energies is strongly affected by the 1/2 /sub 2//sup +/ (6.36 MeV) weakly bound state. The astrophysical S factor below E/sub c.m./ = 0.3 MeV is therefore significantly enhanced with respect to the extrapolations used for astrophysical purposes.
