Model area describes NW Pennsylvania's Medina play

The Medina Group sandstones of the Lower Silurian area comprise the currently most active drilling objective for gas in northwestern Pennsylvania. A model area of 186 sq. miles in the midst of the Medina play is the subject of this article. Medina gas qualifies for 107 gas prices due to the official FERC tight sand classification of the pay zones. The Medina Group sandstones have wide distribution in the region and appear to be gas-bearing throughout most of their areal extent.
