Kinetics of reaction of acetyl iodide with methyl acetate

The kinetics of the reaction of acetyl iodide with methyl acetate were studied. It was found that the reaction proceeds only with acid catalysis by the AAc/sub 2/ mechanism. Catalysis by hydrohalides (HI, HCl) is accompanied by consumption of the catalyst due to reaction with acetic anhydride.
