The authors consider the correspondence between the O(3) nonlinear {sigma}-model with the Hopf invariant {theta} = {pi} and a four-fermi SU(2) invariant theory in (2 + 1) dimensions. In this paper it is shown that the two theories have a very similar phase structure. This includes the pattern of breakdown of various symmetries and a spectrum of low-lying excitations. Both theories are renormalizable. This suggests their possible equivalence.
