Chemical effluents in surface waters from nuclear power plants: Research Order No. 60-79-002. Quarterly progress report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5735216
Samples of circulating water and cooling tower basin sediment were collected at the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station in July and September 1979. Total copper concentrations in the water circulating in the tower cooling system were about 190 ..mu..g/l. Approximately 60% of the copper was in the soluble fraction. The marked gradients in copper concentrations in the sediment and interstitial water that were detected in June were still present in July and September. However, the copper concentrations in the solid phase appear to be changing at different rates and direction from those in the liquid phase. The cause of the gradient and the processes producing the changes were not immediately apparent.
