Method of overlapping relaxations: photolysis of i-C/sub 3/F/sub 7/I

The rate constants of the second-order (at the high-pressure limit) recombination reactions of i-C/sub 3/F/sub 7/ radicals with one another (kR/sub 2/) and with I(/sup 2/P/sub 1/2/) and I(/sup 2/P/sub 3/2/) atoms (K/sub RI/ and k/sub RI/) have been measured by the method of overlapping relaxations. A mathematical analysis of the character of the experimental curves made it possible to simplify the extraction of information on the quantum yield (p) of I(/sup 2/P/sub 1/2/) atoms in the primary act of the photodissociation of i-C/sub 3/F/sub 7/I molecules and to make it more reliable. The value p = 0.90 +/- 0.05 was obtained for photolytic radiation with an almost continuous spectrum.
