Interaction between the catalytic and ion transport sites of the adenosine triphosphatase of sarcoplasmic reticulum

The goal of this thesis is the elucidation of the mechanism of energy transduction between the ATP catalytic site and the ion transport sites of the Ca/sup 2 +/-Mg/sup 2 +/ ATPase of skeletal muscle sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR). Modification of the ATPase peptide by thiol group blockage with mercurial reagents and proteolytic fragmentation with trypsin is used to perturb the interactions between the hydrolytic and transport processes.
