A mode-locked He-Ne laser (lambda = 1.15 ..mu..m) is described. The laser can be used for various purposes, one of which is that of diagnosis of fiber light guides. The laser was based on a stock LG-38 laser whose mirrors were replaced by multilayer dielectric mirrors with a maximum reflection coefficient at wavelength lambda = 1.15 ..mu..m whose reflective coating consisted of layers of ZXnS and MgF/sub 2/ with a thickness of lambda/4 with 13 and 19 film coatings, respectively, deposited on a flat substrate and a substrate with a radius of curvature of 2 m. This made the divergence of the laser radiation theta = 5'.
