The authors investigated for the first time the composition of neutral components in the direct-current discharge of a CO/sub 2/ waveguide laser with a BeO capillary. The inside diameter of the capillary was 1.5 mm, and the length of the discharge part was 100 mm. The starting CO/sub 2/-N/sub 2/-He gas mixture (1:1:8) was typical for a CO/sub 2/ waveguide laser. The mixture pressure was 2.7-13.3 kPa, and the charge current was 2-6 mA. The composition of the gas mixture was analyzed with an APDM-1 mass spectrometer. The results of measurements for a pressure of 13.3 kPa are shown as relations of the concentrations of the Co/sub 2/ and O/sub 2/ molecules and O atoms.
