Brillouin scattering of multiline laser light in a flowing plasma corona

Multiline lasers have been suggested as a means of reducing stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) from laser fusion target plasmas. It is shown that because of interaction between incident and reflected laser lines, Brillouin scattering may still occur even if each line individually is below SBS threshold. The resultant scattering tends to be beneficial, however, as it is primarily the outgoing light which is scattered back into the plasma by the interaction.
