National Dioxin Study Tier 4 - combustion sources: project summary report. Final report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5730020
This report presents the Agency's finding on the assessment of dioxin emissions from combustion sources under Tier 4 of the National Dioxin Strategy. The primary objectives of Tier 4 are outlined in the report. The report describes the information of the Agency collected at the request of Congress to improve the current understanding of combustion sources that emit dioxin to the ambient air. The tasks used to collect the information are outlined, including stack testing, ash sampling, and data analysis. References to other documents that describe methods, procedures, and detailed analyses are identified. The report finds that small amounts of chlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans are emitted from many combustion sources, with only a few sources emitting larger amounts. These sources include municipal waste incinerators, secondary copper smelters and sewage sludge incinerators.
