Beam maser investigation of inelastic scattering of NH/sub 3/. I. Cross sections for inversion transitions induced by polar gases

Cross sections for transitions across the inversion doublets (J, K) = (1, 1), (2, 2), (3 ,3), and (6, 6), of NH/sub 3/ in collisions with NH/sub 3/, CF/sub 3/H, and CH/sub 3/F have been measured in a molecular beam maser. The results are in good agreement with values calculated both in Anderson's theory and in first-order Born approximation. A comparison is made with results of line broadening and transient experiments.
