Measurement of the phase and magnitude of eta/sub 00/

This Letter presents measurements of the phase and magnitude of the CP-nonconservation parameter eta/sub 00/ resulting from a study of the proper-time distribution of K/sup 0/ ..-->.. ..pi../sup 0/..pi../sup 0/ decays in a short-lived neutral beam. We find phi/sub 00/=55.7/sup 0/ +- 5.8/sup 0/ and vertical-bareta/sub 00/vertical-bar= (2.33 +- .18) x 10/sup -3/. A direct comparison to eta/sub +/- measured in the same experiment gives phi/sub 00/-phi/sub +/-=12.6/sup 0/ +- 6.2/sup 0/ and vertical-bareta/sub 00//eta/sub +/-vertical-bar =1.00 +- 0.09.
