Documentation of the National Utility Financial Statement (NUFS) model. Volume I. Methodology description and user's guide. Final report
The purpose of this report is to describe the methodology and use of the National Utility Financial Statement (NUFS) model. NUFS is a financial model used by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) to forecast financial variables for the electric utility industry. This model was originally developed in 1981. Since this time, the model has undergone continual modifications and improvements. The NUFS methodology is now embedded in the Electricity Market Module of the Intermediate Future Forecasting System (IFFS) in which it is used to forecast electricity prices and financial parameters for the electric utility industry. In addition, the NUFS methodology can be used in a similar manner in conjunction with the National Coal Model (NCM). This report is Volume I of a two volume set and describes in detail the model's methodology, inputs, outputs, and running procedures. Volume II is a Programmer's Manual for NUFS. These volumes are meant to replace all earlier descriptions of the NUFS model and describe the current NUFS methodology as of September 1, 1984.
