Journal Article · · J. Wildl. Manage.; (United States)
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2307/3799209· OSTI ID:5720256
Tissues of 190 ducks, shot on the Canadian prairie during the hunting seasons of 1969 and 1970, were analyzed for mercury residues. Residue levels of over 0.5 ppm were found only in breast muscle of common mergansers (Mergus merganser). Livers contained, on the average, 2.9 times as much mercury as breast muscles. Primary feathers contained, on the average, 12 times as much mercury as breast muscles of adult pintails (Anas acuta) and 22 times as much mercury as those of immature pintails. Mercury levels in primaries correlated with those in muscles for adults but not with those of immature ducks. 6 references, 3 tables.
