Analysis of laminar natural convection superimposed on downward flow in vertical tube annulus

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5719149
The problem of fully developed laminar combined natural and forced convection in vertical concentric circular tube annulus is analyzed for downward flow. Complete closed form analytical solutions for velocity and temperature are obtained for arbitrary conbination of uniform heat fluxes prescribed on the inner and the outer surfaces of the annulus. Nusselt numbers are determined from these solutions. The problem is shown to be characterized by the diameter ratio, the Grashof-to-Reynolds number ratio, and the heat flux ratio. The fundamental solutions that are independent of the heat flux ratio are obtained, from which the general solutions for any heat flux ratio can easily be synthesized.
