Shell Expro has completed installation of the North Sea's first oil production system combining a permanently moored tanker with a SALM in Fulmar field. Linking the tanker to the SALM through which production will move from the field's permanent platform was the final stage in installation of Fulmar's production facilities. Located in 82-m (270-ft) water 170 miles (273.5 km) east of Dundee, the SALM/tanker system is the first of its type to be installed in the North Sea, and in the harshest environment in the world in which such a system has been used. It will receive production from the permanent platform and offload it onto shuttle tankers. The Medora and SALM are permanently joined by a 900-ton yoke extending from the tanker's bow.
