The Netherlands have historically engaged in intensive land use for both industrial and agricultural development, both of which require energy. Mobil activities in the country are developing offshore gas fields first discovered in 1964 in the Dutch North Sea. The company has sold petroleum products to Holland for over 80 years, and a number of Mobil's affiliates have manufacturing facilities and retail outlets there. The author outlies the teamwork and the technology transfers involved in these activities, and describes the construction of offshore platforms in some detail. 3 figures.
