Applications for the Texas cold neutron source

Conference · · Transactions of the American Nuclear Society; (United States)

One of the viable instructional and research areas for a 1-MW university research reactor is the [open quotes]use of neutrons to probe the structure and dynamics of condensed matter.[close quotes] A cold neutron source has been designed, constructed, and tested as the first step in addressing this function at the University of Texas research reactor. Using the results of these tests, the authors are now finalizing the designs of applications planned for the Texas Cold Neutron Source (TCNS). This paper discusses two of these applications, a prompt gamma activation analysis (PGAA) facility and a small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) facility.
