Computer aided dispatching system for routine logging of customer service and street department trucks

A computerized customer-service or maintenance-crew dispatching system eliminates radio confusion and noise, speeds up the response time, needs no voice communication, and stores all transmitted messages. Special numerical codes assigned to each truck, job assignment, and job status allow the driver to report his activities to his dispatcher via an encoder - a device that sends five digits of information through the radio to the service-center computer. The computer logs in the message and displays it for the dispatcher. In turn, the dispatcher can page a specific truck using a yellow light or the truck's horn to alert the driver.
