Flashover of the air gap on the switch contacts leads at power substations to propagation of a traveling electromagnetic wave, which arises in the secondary noise circuits. The noise pulses may have significant levels and may reach the relay input. According to data of the time of attenuation of the transient voltages usually lies in the 4 to 20 microsecond range. In the process of operating a high speed high frequency semiconductor current protector, installed on a 750 kV line it was shown that the current protector relays are subject to false operation during switching operations. The designation of these current relays, their circuits, the causes of operation during noise, experimental studies at two 750 kV substations and measurements to eliminate false operation of the relays are examined.
