Look at New Mexico's oil and gas production

Journal Article · · Oil Gas J.; (United States)

Southeastern New Mexico's Permian and Delaware basins, which yield 90% of the state's oil, rank among the US's major oil and gas producing provinces. New Mexico also holds the San Juan basin, which produces gas from Upper Cretaceous rocks at 100-8500 ft. The San Juan basin's biggest gas sources are two huge stratigraphic reservoirs - the Blanco-Mesaverde and the Basin Dakota gas fields. Most of the Mesaverde group's dry gas comes from sandstones with porosities of 4-14% and permeabilities of 0.9-2 md. The Dakota pay sands exhibit 7-11% porosities and an average 0.15-md permeability. The Morrow formation of Lower Pennsylvanian age - a prime exploration target in recent years - holds major dry-gas reserves.
