By means of an apparatus consisting of a recoil-nucleus detector and a spectrometer of proportional chambers the differential cross sections for elastic p/sup 4/He scattering at small angles have been measured at 695, 793, 890, and 991 MeV. The systematic error in absolute normalization of the cross sections is +- 2%. For each of the energies we have found in analysis of experimental data the total cross section, the diffraction-cone slope parameter, and the total cross section for p/sup 4/He scattering. The results of the measurements are compared with a calculation according to the Glauber-Sitenko model in which nucleon-nucleon amplitudes obtained from a phase-shift analysis were used. It is shown that the slope of the calculated differential cross sections systematically exceeds the slope of the experimental differential cross sections. It is noted that one of possible reasons for the discrepancy observed can be an admixture of multiquark bags in the /sup 4/He nucleus.
