A set of 28 giants and subgiants in the globular cluster 47 Tuc with absolute magnitudes between +1 and +2 have been observed. Variations in the strength of the 4215-A CN band are found in the sample, suggesting that CN variations exist among stars in all stages of post-turn-off evolution in 47 Tuc. Indices of the strength of CN and CH bands are derived from the spectra and compared with indices computed from synthetic spectra based on the model atmosphere computed by Gustafsson et al. (1975). The pattern of C and N variations among the 47 Tuc giants is shown to be dissimilar to that expected from observations of M92 by Carbon et al. (1982) and Langer et al (1986). 37 refs.
