Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5710477
The Michigan Disposal Service (Cork Street Landfill) site was listed on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) National Priorities List (NPL) in February 1990. The site is a 68-acre landfill, which served as an open dump, accepting household and industrial waste from 1925 to 1968. An incinerator also operated on the site for many years during this period. The groundwater at the site has been found to be contaminated with metals, including lead and arsenic, and various volatile organic chemicals, including benzene. The site poses an indeterminate public health hazard. There are several pathways by which people may be exposed to the contaminants, but there is no evidence that significant exposure has occurred.
