Fiberglass pipe used on Texas waterflood project

Journal Article · · Pipeline News; (United States)
OSTI ID:5704868
Corrosion resistance and ease of installation made fiberglass the material of choice for replacing corroded steel piping at a West Texas oil field waterflood project using a 1.03 specific gravity brine. Contaminants, pressure, and velocity also contribute to the corrosion of steel, while fiberglass installations remain corrosion free after 20 years. The author describes the installation procedure, which was eased by the lighter weight of fiberglass and the fact that there was no need for welding, special equipment, or internal coating.
