Precise measurements of the differential cross sections for the reaction ..pi../sup -/p..--> pi../sup 0/n have been made at a momentum 40 GeV/c at small values of the 4-momentum transfer t. The experiments were carried out on the 70-GeV accelerator at Serpukhov with the help of a hodoscopic ..gamma.. spectrometer. The t-dependence of the cross section reveals a predominant spin-flip contribution.
