Improvements in the technology of hydrogenating solid fuels include the use of new catalysts for the hydrogenation of coal and the products from coal liquefaction at lower hydrogen pressures (below 10 MPa). Here they present data on hydrotreating predephenolized coal distillates in the presence of a new wide-pore alumina-nickel-molybdenum catalyst, at high space velocities. The feedstocks used in this work were 120-230/sup 0/C and 180-360/sup 0/C distillate cuts obtained in the hydrogenation of lignite from the Borodino field of the Kansk-Achinsk basin. The coal distillates were inhibited by the addition of 0.01% Ionol by weight. The characteristics of the feedstocks are listed.
