Angular anisotropy of fragments in the near-threshold fission of /sup 236/U and /sup 238/U by neutrons

The angular anisotropy of the fragments in fission of /sup 236/U and /sup 238/U by neutrons has been studied in the near-threshold region. Monoenergetic neutrons in the energy range 0.55 to 3.23 MeV were used. The results for /sup 236/U are in good agreement with earlier studies. For /sup 238/U there is disagreement with some of the earlier work, the asymmetry coefficient near threshold being found to be generally positive and in the neighborhood of 0.4--0.5. (AIP)
