Complete information for each state is organized by permit under ''Exploration'' and ''Production'' for surface, underground, and special-category mining. Federal requirements are arranged according to the agency responsible for land use (e.g., Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service) and by surface, underground, and special category mining. The purpose of the permit, a summary of the application process, and the specific requirements are given for every permit. A critical path that highlights the requirements in each state and for the federal processes is also provided.
